Foruth-seeded Hoboken amassed a nine-point halftime lead over fifth-seeded Union City and did just enough to fend off a second-half rally to secure a 46-42 win in the quarterfinal round of the Hudson County Tournament in Hoboken.
Hoboken’s victory sends it into the semifinal round of the tournament where it will look to knock off top-seeded Bayonne, which dispatched ninth-seeded North Bergen by a score of 61-37 in its quarterfinal game.
Emma Conway led all players with a 15-point effort for Hoboken, which had its best showing in the opening eight minutes and outscored Union City 11-4. Hoboken increased its lead to 23-14 at halftime before Union City clawed away down the stretch, outscoring Hoboken 28-23.
Samayah Blanks also scored in double figures with 10 points while Jasmin High was close behind with nine points for Hoboken (17-6).
Yasmeen El Hindi and Leah Dominguez accounted for the majority of the offense for the visitors, tallying 14 and 12 points apiece for Union City (10-16).
