The Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards made headlines over the weekend because of his All Star Game MVP performance as well as some comments that were caught on camera after the game.
He was speaking to Atlanta Hawks forward Jalen Johnson, and they were caught discussing about Atlanta, which is where Edwards originally grew up. The quote will be listed below, but there have been rumors now floating about Edwards potentially wanting to join the Hawks.
Not only is this a rumor, but the Atlanta Hawks are legitimately one of three NBA teams with a list of assets that could be traded for a legit superstar. Let’s break down the possibility of a mega trade of Anthony Edwards to the Atlanta Hawks. *Prediction*

“I can’t wait to come home” “Y’all got so many wings, and Kuminga nice too” –Edwards.
This is what Edwards said after he scored 32 points over the three games he played, including eight in an easy finals victory over the Stripes. Immediately there is a connection because of Edwards playing his college ball at Georgia, and having grown up in Atlanta as well.
While there have been a ton of rumors around the Timberwolves, they still have having decent success, sitting at 34-22 at 6th place in the Western Conference. Edwards also has three more seasons left on his current contract after the 2025-26 season, so there is no contract incentive for him to want out.
There was also a scenario that Hawks fans were floating out, where they compared the Hawks potential trade similar to when the Timberwolves traded for Andrew Wiggins from the Cavaliers in return for star Kevin Love.
“In 2014, the Cleveland Cavaliers traded the No. 1 pick (Andrew Wiggins) and former No. 1 pick Anthony Bennett to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Kevin Love after LeBron James returned; if Atlanta lands the No. 1 pick, they could use the top selection, Zaccharie Risacher, and two future first-round picks to pursue Anthony Edwards — the same structure of No. 1 pick plus former No. 1 pick plus future assets for a superstar.”
This seems like a lot to take in, but a potential trade proposal would be “Top-3 2026 Draft Pick (from the Pelicans pick), 2028 ATL 1st, 2030 ATL 1st, Zacharie Risacher, and CJ McCollum.
This would likely only be close to enough for Minnesota if it was the number one overall selection with a loaded draft class of guys like, AJ Dybantsa, Cameron Boozer, and others.
As of right now this seems like a scenario that he was more excited to head back to his home potentially during the current all star break, and he was simply giving Johnson some props on the great team they have in Atlanta.
