Philadelphia 76ers Two-Way forward Jabari Walker has had a solid season for a 76ers team that is looking to get the most out of center Joel Embiid and forward Paul George. Walker has been one of the players that Philadelphia has counted on for depth in the frontcourt and it seems that the team is rewarding him for his efforts on the court this season.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Monday that the 76ers intend to sign Walker to a new two-year contract as a way to keep him in the rotation since he has already played too many games on a Two-Way deal. Charania noted that the news comes from Walker’s agents, Rich Paul and Anthony Fields of Klutch Sports, meaning that Walker can still be relied upon by head coach Nick Nurse and the coaching staff.

Walker, 23, is in his fourth season in the league after spending the first three years of his career with the Portland Trail Blazers in various roles within Portland’s rotation. In his first season with the 76ers this year, Walker is averaging 3.7 points and 3.1 rebounds while shooting 40.3% from the field and 27.0% from behind the three-point line in 45 games played.

As it stands, Walker is still competing with Trendon Watford and Justin Edwards for playing time in the frontcourt, but with the 76ers looking to clinch a playoff spot, Walker will be one of the players to help make that happen. Walker had arguably his best month of the season in December when he averaged 5.6 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting 39.0% from the floor and 33.3% from deep.

Ultimately, if Philadelphia is going to make it past the second round of the playoffs, the team will be relying more on Embiid, George, and All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey, among others. However, some playoff teams prevail thanks to having the necessary depth towards the end of the rotation and the 76ers made sure to take care of one of the players that has been reliable throughout this entire season.
