North Carolina coach Hubert Davis landed a top recruit for the Tar Heels

– and the program’s recent victory over Duke played a role.

Guard Dylan Mingo, a five-star recruit from New York, committed to North Carolina on Tuesday. He announced his decision live on ESPN’s “First Take,” unzipping his sweatshirt to reveal a North Carolina t-shirt.

Mingo is ranked in the top 10 by several recruiting rankings, including No. 6 by On3No. 8 by 247Sports and No. 9 by ESPN.

“Seeing everything after they won the [Duke] game had a huge impact,” Mingo said on ESPN. “It’s so joyful. The players looked so joyful. If you heard Seth Trimble and Caleb Wilson, if you heard them speak after, they talked about how much they loved their community and loved North Carolina.”

Trimble hit a game-winning 3-pointer in the final second of the Tar Heels’ 71-68 victory.

Mingo is the Tar Heels’ second commitment for 2026, joining forward Maximo Adams from California.
