It’s no secret that the Philadelphia 76ers had a tough go at it in the 2024-25 season. Expected to contend for a championship, the Sixers struggled as they went 24-58 as they were hamstrung by injuries that decimated the roster.
Paul George, their big offseason acquisition in free agency, played only 41 games and had a tough time getting acclimated in Philadelphia. He was limited by a variety of injuries and was unable to make the impact many expected when he signed a 4-year $212 million deal.
On the latest episode of “Podcast P with Paul George”, the 9-time All-Star recounted the time he was caught in traffic as Philadelphia fans were celebrating the Eagles winning the NFC title and then, subsequently, going on to win the Super Bowl. The fans recognized him and gave him a hard time saying “We could have kept Tobias (Harris)!”
Of course, Harris played 5.5 seasons in Philadelphia and drew the ire of the fan base due to his hefty contract and uneven performances at times. He left to join the Detroit Pistons in the 2024 offseason and helped them reach the playoffs for the first time since 2019 and then win their first playoff games since 2008 while the Sixers struggled.
Harris saw the video of what fans said to George and threw some shade on Twitter as he posted a picture of himself with a cigar and posted Philadelphia’s 4-27 record after the Super Bowl.
It’s very obvious that Harris got the last laugh in this specific situation. Of course, things can change when time moves on. George can have a healthy season and be the player he and the Sixers expect in the 2025-26 season, but at the moment, Harris is in a position where he can laugh a bit and move on with his situation in Detroit.
