The guard has been ruled out for the year in order to continue recovering from ACL surgery.
DALLAS, Texas — The Dallas Mavericks have announced that Kyrie Irving will not return to the court for the remainder of the 2025-2026 season as he continues to recover from ACL surgery last year.
The team announced the news in a release Wednesday.Â
Irving will be continuing his recovery efforts from ACL surgery last year. The Mavericks in the release added that Irving is making progress in rehab and will remain engaged with the team.
Irving included a statement this morning that reads, in part: “I am grateful for the Mavericks organization, my teammates and our fans for their continued support throughout the process. I am looking forward to coming back stronger next season.”
The Mavericks next game is Friday night when they visit the Minnesota Timberwolves. That game will air on WFAA’s sister station KFAA 29 alongside ESPN and MavsTV.
Irving tore his ACL last last season and was expected to miss a significant amount of time in 2025-2026. While there was a chance he could return this season, the news Wednesday was likely not a huge surprise in the wake of the recent Anthony Davis trade and the Mavs’ 19-35 record.
Irving has two years remaining on his contract with the Mavs, including a player option in 2027-2028.
