The Dallas Mavericks trade Anthony Davis to the Washington Wizards, acquiring Khris Middleton and others in a multi-player deal, reshaping both teams’ futures.
DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks have traded 10-time All-Star Anthony Davis to the Washington Wizards just over a year after he was swapped for Luka Doncic, a high-level Mavs source confirmed to WFAA.
The trade was first reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania, who also broke the Luka-AD trade a year ago, which sent shockwaves throughout Dallas sports media and the NBA.Â
Davis will be sent to the Washington Wizards alongside Jaden Hardy, D’Angelo Russell and Dante Exum. In return, Dallas will receive Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, Marvin Bagley III, two first-round picks and three second-rounders. Dallas will get a 2026 Thunder first-round pick and a 2030 protected Warriors first-round pick in this deal from the Wizards along with second rounders in 2026 (Phoenix), 2027 (Chicago) and 2029 (Houston).
The WFAA Sports Team broke down the trade here:Â
Davis played 29 games for the Mavericks since he was traded to Dallas. He had an injury-riddled tenure with the Mavericks, including a hand injury, detached retina injury, and groin strains. Davis is averaging 20.1 points and 11.1 rebounds in 20 games this season.
The deal was struck nearly 24 hours before the NBA trade deadline, which is 2 p.m. CT on Thursday, Feb. 5.
ESPN reported last month that Davis’ agent, Rich Paul, told the Mavericks he wanted Davis “traded by next week,” a report that was disputed by insider Marc Stein, saying no request had been made.Â

WFAA has reached out to the Mavericks for comment on the trade report.
Middleton is a NBA Champion with the Milwaukee Bucks and a three-time NBA All-Star. He started 34 games for the Washington Wizards this season, averaging 10.3 points per game, 3.9 rebounds per game and 3.3 assists per game. Bagley III also scored 10 points per game for the Wizards, mainly off the bench. Bagley III was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft and has played for the Sacramento Kings, Detroit Pistons, Memphis Grizzlies and Washington Wizards. Johnson and Branham both contributed less than 10 minutes per game for the Wizards this season. Johnson and Branham were both drafted in the early 20s of their respective draft classes.Â
With this move, the Mavericks offloaded about $70 million from their payroll next season, according to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.
