BOWIE, MD — The Bowie State men’s basketball team (6-21, 4-11 CIAA, 1-8 North) fell to Virginia State, 67-61, Wednesday night inside A.C. Jordan Arena.

The Bulldogs created opportunities defensively with 15 steals and kept the game within a single-digit margin for much of the night, but Virginia State’s 48 rebounds proved to be the difference.

After the Trojans opened the scoring early in the first half, Nazaire Hinton answered with a jumper to even the game. VSU used second-chance points and transition opportunities to build a small lead, but Bowie State responded behind KJ West. West connected on a 3-pointer at the 12:34 mark to give the Bulldogs a 13-11 edge.

The remainder of the first half featured multiple lead changes and defensive stops on both ends. Despite the Bulldogs’ pressure, Virginia State took a slim 33-31 advantage into halftime.

Coming out of the break, the Trojans used a 7-0 run to stretch the lead to six. BSU answered quickly with a fast-break dunk from Jailin Landis to regain momentum. The Bulldogs continued to battle, trimming the deficit to 53-50 on a layup by Joseph Allen with just under seven minutes remaining.

Virginia State responded with a timely 3-pointer in the final four minutes to extend the lead, and Bowie State was unable to fully close the gap in the closing stretch.
