Unquestionably, the area in which Acuff excels the most is scoring the basketball. He can score efficiently on all three levels, shooting 50.3% from the field and 43.2% from three. At the rim, Acuff weaponizes his burst and ball-handling to get past opposing defenders and apply immense rim pressure. In fact, Acuff is shooting an efficient 62.3% around the rim, which is impressive for a guard of his size. Not only does he utilize his burst and ball-handling to gain advantages, but he also has the functional strength to power through contact. Plus, Acuff is extremely skilled at operating the pick-and-roll to create a good shot.

Acuff is equally impressive as a shooter. He can get buckets in the mid-range, where he can knock down various types of shots like floaters or pull-up jump shots. As for his three-point shot, Acuff has been a great shooter from beyond the arc. He can knock down threes in a variety of ways, such as a spot-up shooter, coming off of screens, and shooting off the dribble. Considering his shot-making abilities, Acuff has the versatility to operate both on and off the ball.

Impressive Playmaking

Something that positively augments his offensive game is his impressive playmaking abilities. Acuff possesses great court vision and passing ability, which allows him to average 6.3 assists compared to two turnovers per game. He can certainly get downhill to score at the basket, but his rim pressure also affects his playmaking. Specifically, Acuff can use his rim pressure to collapse defenses and create open looks for his teammates. Similarly, he can also use the pick-and-roll to find open teammates for great scoring opportunities.

Areas Of Concern
On The Small Side

One of the clearest weaknesses of Acuff is his lack of size. Standing at six-foot-three, he would be on the smaller side, even amongst other guards. To be fair, Acuff does have a sturdy frame, which does alleviate some concern with his size. However, with NBA-level athletes being bigger and stronger than college, Acuff will be a target for opposing offenses. Specifically, NBA teams will force him in unfavorable matchups, which will result in easy buckets. This is one area that NBA teams will have to consider with Acuff in the draft process.

Inconsistent Defensive Engagement

In addition to his lack of size, Acuff is always locked in on the defensive side of the ball. In particular, he will have defensive lapses, which can result in him being out of position to defend. Plus, he doesn’t consistently find ways to contribute on the defensive end, like getting steals. Acuff does have flashes of impressive defensive impact, but he must improve his consistency as a defender.

The Last Word

Overall, Acuff has proven himself to be one of the best guards in the entire class. He is a major threat to score anywhere on the court. Furthermore, he has the shot creation and ball-handling ability to effectively break down opposing defenses. To be sure, Acuff’s size is a major hindrance for him, especially on the defensive side of the floor. Adding on to that, Acuff isn’t always engaged on the defensive end either, which exacerbates his defensive concerns. Nevertheless, Acuff’s package as an offensive player will make him enticing for any team drafting in the top 20. He has the upside to be an incredible scorer for any team that drafts him. Undoubtedly, adding one of the most talented guards to one’s roster would be a major win for any NBA team.
