Minnesota Timberwolves of USA’s new signing, Ayo Dosunmu has been tipped to twinkly in the second half of the National Basketball Association (NBA) season, despite still being rated as a rookie, Sports247 reports.

The Cupid-faced rising star shot to limelight with Chicago Bulls at the start of the current campaign, but The Timberwolves opted to take a gamble on his rising profile by snatching him during the recent window.

Heading into this weekend’s resumption of action in the NBA, Dosunmu (whose full name is Quamdeen Ayopo) is already espied as the lad who will become Minnesota’s starting point guard.

Born January 17th, 2000, Dosunmu played college basketball for Illinois Fighting Illini, where he got consensus first-team All-American honors in his junior season, and Chicago Bulls selected him with the 38th pick in the 2021 NBA draft.

He began his high school career at Chicago’s Westinghouse College Prep, where he helped lead The Warriors to a 2015 conference championship against Al Raby High School.

On December 5th, 2024, Dosunmu achieved his first career triple-double with 27 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists, in The Bulls’ 139-124 win over San Antonio Spurs.

On January 31st, 2026, Dosunmu hit 29 points in a 125-118 win over Miami Heat, shooting 5-for-6 from beyond the three-point line and made every field goal he attempted in the second half.

On February 4th, 2026, Dosunmu and Julian Philips were traded to Minnesota, and he got 11 points along with two steals in a 115–96 loss against Los Angeles Clippers during his debut on February 8th, 2026.

A citation for Dosunmu noted in part, “This was unquestionably the most underrated acquisition of the deadline. This season, with Josh Giddey who averages 18.6 points, Dosunmu was Chicago’s best guard.

“Having played in Chicago his whole career, Dosunmu, who averages 15 points and has hit almost 44.7% of his triples this year, has flown under the national radar, to the point where most fans simply aren’t aware of how good he is.

“He bends defenses when he moves off the ball, he’s a terrific point-of-attack defender, and at 6-4 with long arms and great defensive anticipation, you can ask him to play three positions.”
