The G League’s OKC Blue couldn’t keep up in a 137-126 loss to the Salt Lake City Stars on Thursday. The road defeat dropped their record to 7-15 in the regular season.

Pretty obvious from the jump that this was going to be a high-scoring game. Well-rested from a week-long break, the Blue were in a 31-29 deficit after the first quarter. The back-and-forth contest continued through the second frame as OKC tallied 36 points. It entered halftime in a 70-65 hole.

Eventually, the Blue’s relaxed defense came back to hurt them. They scored 32 points in the third quarter, but it didn’t matter as the Stars had 41 points. That basically ended the game as OKC’s deficit grew to 111-97 with a dozen minutes to go.

The Blue scored 29 points in the final frame, but never managed to get it within single-digit points. They trailed by as many as 20 points in a double-digit loss that resembled NBA 2K.

The Blue shot 50% from the field and went 15-of-38 (39.5%) from 3. They shot 9-of-11 on free throws. They had 34 assists on 48 baskets. Six Blue players scored double-digit points.
