Dallas Mavericks rookie forward Cooper Flagg will not play Friday on the road against the Minnesota Timberwolves due to a foot injury, coach Jason Kidd said.

Flagg was diagnosed with a left midfoot sprain suffered on Feb. 10 during a 120-111 loss to the Phoenix Suns. He was sidelined for the Mavericks’ last game on Feb. 12 and for the Rising Stars Game on Friday at NBA All-Star Weekend.

The No. 1 overall pick, who is day-to-day with the injury, was spotted in a walking boot while attending a Duke home game on Saturday. He was no longer wearing it on Thursday and was seen running at practice in a video taken by Christian Clark of The Athletic.

Flagg is averaging 20.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.2 steals on 48.2% shooting from the field in 49 games with the Mavericks. He leads the rookie class in scoring and has the most 30-point games by a rookie since Victor Wembanyama in the 2023-24 season (7).

The 19-year-old was named the Western Conference Rookie of the Month for the third straight time. He and Charlotte Hornets guard Kon Knueppel are the only two players to win Rookie of the Month this season, beginning in October and November.

Flagg was initially expected to be available to play after the All-Star break, but the 6-foot-8 forward will need additional time to recover from the injury. He will miss his sixth game of the season on Friday against the Timberwolves.
