MINNEAPOLIS — The Dallas Mavericks won’t have Cooper Flagg in the lineup when they face the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday in their first game after the All-Star break.
Flagg remains out with a left foot sprain, Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said Thursday.
Kidd was noncommittal when asked if Flagg will play at all on Dallas’ upcoming three-game road trip, which has stops in Minnesota, Indiana and Brooklyn.
“We’re going to take it day by day,” Kidd said.
Flagg’s left foot injury occurred in a Feb. 10 game against the Phoenix Suns. He was wearing a walking boot on his left foot this past weekend in North Carolina, where he traveled to watch Duke play against Clemson.
Flagg was no longer wearing the boot Thursday, and though he didn’t participate in the Mavericks’ practice, he was able to get shots up and participate in sprinting work.

Flagg is averaging 20.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists this season. He has been one of the Mavericks’ most durable players, appearing in 49 of 54 games.
The Mavericks began this season with three No. 1 draft picks on their roster but are down to two after trading Anthony Davis to the Washington Wizards this month. The Mavericks had a 16-13 record when Flagg and Davis shared the floor.
Flagg has yet to play with Kyrie Irving — and won’t get that opportunity until the fall. The Mavericks on Wednesday announced that Irving won’t play this season while he continues to recover from the torn left ACL injury he suffered in March.
“I think long-term health,” Kidd said about the decision to wait until next season to bring Irving back. “We want to make sure he’s ready to go. Looking as we go forward. Making sure he’s ready to go for next season. Like he said, they ask him the question every day. I think he put an end to that question.”
The Mavericks (19-35) have lost nine games in a row going into Friday’s game. It is their longest losing streak since they lost 15 in a row during the 1997-98 season.
