The Pelicans recently opened a permanent roster spot for McGowens, 23, by trading fan favorite point guard Jose Alvarado.

McGowens is shooting 48 percent from the field for the Pelicans this season while averaging 8 points, 2 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.

ESPN reports that McGowens’s new deal with New Orleans is a three-year contract.

This is McGowens’s fourth year in the NBA since being drafted at No. 40 overall out of Nebraska by Minnesota in 2022. In the 2024-25 season, the shooting guard was the G-League’s leading scorer.

McGowens, who was signed by New Orleans as a two-way player in the offseason, appears to have found himself a full-time NBA home for now.

Friday (Feb. 20), the Pelicans return to action, hosting the Milwaukee Bucks at 7 p.m. Broadcast coverage for the game begins at 6:30 p.m. on the Gulf Coast Sports and Entertainment Network.
