NEW YORK, N.Y. – The RV Washington University in St. Louis had a big road win at RV NYU on Friday evening, beating the Violets 84-74. The Bears are now 16-7 overall with a 6-6 mark in UAA play.

Sophomore Connor May scored a career-high 30 points to go with four assists, two steals and two rebounds. First-year Josh Kim netted 16 points and dished out four assists and junior Ryan Cohen scored 14 points with four rebounds. Senior Yogi Oliff grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds with a team-high seven assists.

As a team, the Bears shot 31-for-58 (53.4%) with an impressive 14-for-28 (50.0%) from 3-point range.

The Bears came out to score the first six points of the game on a pair of layups from senior Calvin Kapral and a layup from Kim. Following an NYU free throw, junior George Gale put in a layup and Kim followed with a jumper for a 10-1 Bears’ lead at 13:58.

NYU’s Alex Daniels netted a jumper and Gale followed with a layup. May put in a bucket at 12:44 to push the Bears ahead by 11 points, 14-3.

Midway through the half, a layup from NYU’s Luke Kolaja made it a single-digit, 19-10 game. Less than 10 seconds later, Kim drilled a 3-pointer for a 12-point, 22-10 lead. Following a Violet’s bucket, Cohen hit a shot from distance and Oliff netted a jumper to extend the Bears’ lead 27-12 with 8:37 on the clock.

Down 13, NYU went on to score seven-straight points to cut WashU’s lead to 33-27 with 1:25 remaining. May hit the final jumper of the half, sending the Bears into halftime with an eight-point, 35-27 edge.

The Violets scored the first points of the game as Kolaja stole the ball and laid it in.

Kim scored on a layup, was fouled and hit the ensuing free throw for a 38-29 lead just over one minute into the second half.

NYU hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the Bears’ lead to 38-35 and ultimately went on to tie it at 40-40 with 14:45 on the clock.

The teams exchanged the lead over the next couple of minutes and the game went on to be tied again at 49, 51, 53 and 59 before the Bears started to create some distance.

Cohen hit a 3-pointer at 5:53 to break the tie and put WashU ahead 62-59. Following an NYU bucket, first-year Theo Rocca hit a 3-pointer and May put in a pair of shots from behind the arc to put WashU ahead 71-61 with 4:11 remaining.

May hit another 3-pointer and Cohen drained a shot from distance after a steal from senior Will Grudzinski to make it a 12-point, 77-65 game at 1:33.

With 45 seconds, NYU made it a nine-point game which would be the closest the Violets would come, leading to the Bears 10-point win.

WashU makes the trip up to Waltham, Mass. for a 2 p.m. ET tip at Brandeis on Sunday.
