Right after his 40-point explosion to spearhead the Timberwolves’ 122-111 Friday dub over the Dallas Mavericks, Edwards was asked about his viral footage with Jalen Johnson that sparked buzz about a potential Atlanta homecoming to join the Hawks.
“I don’t think it’s nothing for real,” Edwards told reporters (h/t Andrew Dukowitz). “It wasn’t too much, I’ve been knowing Jalen Johnson for a long time, that’s my dog.
“We were just having a conversation. I’m happy where I’m at.”
Right after the All-Star Game in which he was named the MVP, a video footage caught Edwards telling Johnson, “I can’t wait to come home.”
As such, fans were left intrigued by this statement, considering that Atlanta is where Edwards was born and raised.
As such, Edwards is fully committed to the Minnesota franchise despite the speculations that erupted from last weekend.
“They embraced me, a lot of people didn’t think I was worthy of the No. 1 pick [in 2020] and they did,” Edwards said, “I think that’s the main thing.”
Edwards is at the center of the Timberwolves’ present and future plans. The All-NBA guard has led Minnesota in back-to-back Conference Finals appearances in 2024 and 2025.
This season, he is averaging a career-best 29.3 points with 5.2 boards and 3.7 assists, powering the T-Wolves’ 35-22 record which places them in the No. 5 seed on the Western Conference ladder.
