The Celtics started their second half of the season with a 121-110 win over the Golden State Warriors on Thursday, providing a solid start to the four-game road trip the team is currently on. Payton Pritchard was the leading scorer with 26 points off the bench and seven assists. Jaylen Brown had a triple-double with 23 points, 15 rebounds and 13 assists, while Sam Hauser added 16 points and Derrick White went for 10 and eight assists. At 36-19, Boston has the second-best record in the East.
The Lakers are 34-21, which is good enough for fifth in the West because they lose the tiebreaker to the Houston Rockets, who have the same record but sit in fourth. Los Angeles is coming off a 125-122 win over the LA Clippers that saw Luka Doncic go for 38 points, 11 assists, six rebounds, three steals and a block, while Austin Reaves had 29, six boards, and two steals, and LeBron James went for 13 points and 11 assists. Deandre Ayton also added 13 points and seven boards as they survived the Clippers’ comeback attempt.
Back in December these squads met, and the Celtics walked away with a 126-105 win. Marcus Smart missed out on his chance to play in Boston as Brown went for 30 points, eight boards and eight assists to lead his team to victory. His former teammate should be available for the Lakers on Sunday.
