Although they sit 10th in the Eastern Conference, many believe that the Charlotte Hornets have overachieved this season, defeating some of the league’s best teams, including the Thunder, Spurs and Rockets.

This season already, Charlotte has racked up 27 wins, tied for their best season in the last three years with 24 games remaining.

Although the Hornets have improved in many areas, a lot of their success has been attributed to rookie sensation Kon Knueppel.

Currently, the rookie is averaging 19.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

Additionally, Knueppel is on pace to break the record for most 3-pointers made by a rookie. Not to mention, Knueppel leads the entire league in 3-pointers made, doing so with tremendous efficiency.

Currently, Knueppel is shooting 43.5% from deep, less than 6% behind another Duke alum, Luke Kennard, who leads the league at 49.1%.

This high efficiency and high volume have turned heads throughout the league. According to ESPN, Knueppel is being considered for a spot on the USA Olympic team in 2028.

With Stephen Curry uncertain to play for Team USA again, insiders around the league have mentioned Knueppel’s name as a possible replacement.

With the 2028 Olympics still a couple of seasons away, Knueppel will have plenty of time to improve his game and show himself worthy of a spot on the United States team. 

At 23-years-old, averaging 20.5 points per game, Knueppel’s current teammate, Brandon Miller, may also have a shot at earning a spot on the team.

In the meantime, Knueppel and Miller will return to action on Tuesday against the Chicago Bulls.
