“Russell Westbrook dropped 20 in year 18 again! Yeahhhh Russ!!!” JD Jackson posted.
“Westbrook with a solid performance! Still bringing the energy!” Another fan added.
Since the start of the 2025-2026 NBA season, Westbrook has started in 48 of the 54 games he’s played for the Kings. This season, Westbrook is averaging 15.0 points, 6.4 assists, and 5.5 rebounds per game.
The veteran guard is shooting 42 percent from the field on 13.0 attempts per game, and knocking down 34 percent of his threes. He is attempting 5.9 threes per game.

The State Of The Russell Westbrook Run In Sacramento

GettyRussell Westbrook had a strong performance in the Kings-Grizzlies game on February 23.
When Westbrook joined the Kings, expectations were higher.
With Sacramento investing heavily in several All-Star-caliber players, Westbrook was believed to be a win-now addition to boost their bench unit. The Dennis Schroder experiment didn’t go as planned, and Westbrook beat him out for the starting point guard position early on.
At this point, the Kings cut ties with Schroder, sending him to a more competitive situation with the Cleveland Cavaliers. As for Westbrook, he’s having another solid year at age 37, but he hasn’t been able to contribute to much winning lately. The Kings lost 16 games in a row before the battle against the Memphis Grizzlies. They are 12-46, sitting last in the Western Conference.
Right now, there aren’t any reports signaling that Westbrook is going to reach a buyout with the Kings. When Westbrook wraps up the 2025-2026 NBA season, he’ll become a free agent in the 2026 market.
Last year, Westbrook hit free agency after spending one season with the Denver Nuggets. Despite having a player option for this year, Westbrook got the hint that he was no longer wanted in Denver. He declined his option and sat on the market for several months. Westbrook signed with the Kings during the 2025 preseason.
It’s unclear what the future holds for Westbrook, but the veteran guard continues to show his value at this stage of his career. Meanwhile, the Kings have a lot to work on in the near future.
