Everybody knew that Detroit versus the Spurs was gonna be this huge moment.

We get a win for the Spurs, 114-103 in this, but we’re watching it, and I’m trying to figure out what to make.

Because we’ve said a lot of great things about the West, and a lot of not-so-great things necessarily about the East compared to the West.

We saw a little bit of that last night, right?

Like, we saw- Mm-hmm the third or fourth best team in the West go out and absolutely thump the best team in the East.

I, I, I don’t know.

I didn’t walk away with this more confident in Detroit.

We talked about this yesterday.

We broke it down.

Do- is there any team in the East that you felt confident in, in beating the Oklahoma City Thunder in a seven-game series?

You and I both agreed, nope, not a single team in the East.

What about Denver?

Nope.

What about San Antonio?

We said maybe Detroit.

Maybe Detroit, considering how young San Antonio was, but we just saw it on display last night.

Was last night indicative of what would happen in a seven-game finals series?

No, not necessarily, but we at least got a little bit of a peek behind the curtain of what that matchup would look like, and San Antonio got the best of Detroit.

If we saw a preview of the NBA finals last night, Victor Wembanyama is the NBA’s saving grace.

Victor Wembanyama is a star in this league.

No, Victor Wembanyama’s not LeBron or Steph.

Let’s not get any of that twisted.

But Wemby is a spectacle, and his sheer size and the way that he plays, the way that he can take a game over on any given night.

Like, th- we’ve seen it.

We’ve seen it on full display, that Wemby can be truly unstoppable.

Even if you’re a super casual sports fan, like, and doesn’t know a lot about Wemby, a super casual sports fan is going to be intoxicated and sucked in by the way that Victor Wembanyama can take over any game, especially the way that he could take over a game in the NBA finals.

So if it is Detroit/San Antonio, no, that’s not the sexiest matchup in America, but any time the NBA can get that man playing on the biggest stages that this sport offers, I consider that a win for the NBA.
