BALL, La. (KALB) – Tioga Boys Basketball just completed its best regular season in over a decade, and now the team is turning the page to a postseason run.
“When I first got here, things were a little rocky,” Tioga head coach Christavious Gill said. “We had to get some guys in here that wanted to win, some guys that wanted to be better, some guys that wanted to push themselves every day. This is the perfect group.”
Tioga went 27-7 in the regular season, which included key victories over Lakeview, Northwood and Richwood that helped earn the Indians the #7 seed in Division I Select’s Tournament.
“I had most of these guys since freshman and sophomore year,” Gill said. “So to see them grow to majority juniors and seniors, and to see how far they have come, I’m very proud of these guys.”
Tioga will host the winner of Brother Martin and Scotlandville, with a potential Quarterfinal looming with Gill’s alma mater, the Alexandria Trojans.
“I really can’t grasp the moment until the moment actually comes,” Gill said. “It’s going to be a bittersweet moment, but, hey, we’ve got to take care of business in the second round first.”
“All they’re starters and half their bench are our best friends,” Tioga junior Kentrell Bates said on the possible ASH matchup. “Everybody on the team, we all know them.”
Last February, Tioga won its first playoff game since 2018, as the program hopes to add a few more in the coming weeks.
