OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — From superfans dressing up to creative art projects, Oklahoma City Thunder fans are hyped for Game 5.
Charles Lloyd mowed and painted the team logo on his lawn. He says it took a couple days to make, and he has to give his work some maintenance every 2-3 days.
“As they kept progressing through the playoffs, I decided I’m carving it out,” Lloyd said. “I carved it out, and painted it. It’s been getting a bunch of attention ever since.”
Three weeks ago, Lloyd decided to use his mowing talents to show his passion for the Thunder.
“They’re so good. They’ve just been leading the NBA all year long, and just so good. I don’t see how they could be beat.”
He waited for the grass on his lawn to grow. Lloyd says he carved it out with a weedeater in the shape of the logo, and painted over it.
“Just had a lot of happy responses from everybody. Most of the time when someone sees it for the first time, they go, ‘Wow.”
The 68-year-old has been a fan of the Thunder since 2008. Lloyd says this year has been really special.
“The Thunder’s doing so great this year.”
He says if OKC makes to the NBA Finals and wins a championship, he’ll add “Thunder” to the top of the logo and “2025 champions” at the bottom.
“I’m excited. Could be heading that way tonight maybe.”
Lloyd has never been to a Thunder game, but thanks to the generosity of other fans, Game 5 tonight will be his first time.
“This is a dream come true for me. Nicest thing I’ve ever had happen to me.”
Lloyd says he’s hoping for a Thunder win tonight for his first ever game.
