FULTON, N.Y. — The second annual Unified Basketball Game at G. Ray Bodley High School brought together students with and without disabilities for an afternoon of sportsmanship and camaraderie.

The event, which featured a matchup between Fulton and Hannibal, was a win for everyone involved.

One of the standout players on the Fulton Unified team was senior Hayden Lockwood, affectionately known as “Beast Mode.” Lockwood, who has been part of the team for three years, shared his enthusiasm for the game.

“Honestly, playing with my friends, winning comes second to it, nothing comes better than playing with all my friends,” he said.

The entire high school student body filled the gym, having been released from classes early to attend the event.

Senior Mitchell Shurtleff, a member of the varsity team, expressed his appreciation for the inclusive atmosphere.

“This is more of like enjoyment and like friendship, obviously, but like watching other people succeed, like kids making team-making shots,” Shurtleff said. “There’s no place I’d rather be.”

The afternoon was filled with impressive plays, dance moves, and a sense of community.

Head Coach Joshua Viscome highlighted the significance of the event.

“There are a lot of great things going on here, and this is one of the best examples we have. It’s really been fun for everyone to come together,” he said. “I’m proud to be here.”

The Unified Basketball Game served as a celebration and a reminder that joy is best when shared.
