Purdue held its last lead midway through the second half and fell short in a 74-72 loss to visiting No. 13 Michigan State on Thursday night, to fall to 12-5 in Big Ten play, and dropped to fifth place with three games remaining. Ohio State has lost three of four, damaging its chances of an NCAA bid, dropping to 9-8 in the Big Ten with a 74-57 loss at Iowa on Wednesday night. The Buckeyes shot just 41.9% while Iowa knocked down 57.4% of its shots. Devin Royal scored 16 points in the loss, with John Mobley tossing in 15. Amare Bynum snared six rebounds to lead Ohio State.

Smith averages 14.8 points and 8.8 assists for Purdue, while Fletcher Loyer drops 13.4 points per game and Kaufman-Renn contributes 13.2 points and 8.8 rebounds a night. Bruce Thornton paces Ohio State with an average of 20.0 points while Mobley scores 15.1 points per game and leads the Big Ten in 3-point shooting at 40.8%. Royal posts 14.1 points and 5.5 boards per outing as well.
