The UConn women’s basketball team continued its permanent residence at No. 1 in the AP Top 25 after concluding the regular season with an undefeated record for the first time since 2018.
The Huskies have held the top spot in the poll since the preseason and remained unanimous No. 1 Monday for a seventh straight week. The top nine teams remained unchanged with conference tournaments set to begin this weekend, which will almost certainly shake up the rankings ahead of Selection Sunday on March 15. UConn opens postseason play Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Big East Tournament, where it will face the winner of the first round game between 8-seed Georgetown and 9-seed Butler.
UConn enters March holding four regular-season wins over ranked teams, including a pair in the top 10. Michigan, who gave the Huskies their closest game of the season in November, remained at No. 8 and Iowa at No. 9. Ohio State moved up two spots to No. 11 after a win over No. 18 Michigan State, while Louisville dropped two places to No. 12 following an upset by Notre Dame on Sunday. The Irish, who the Huskies beat by 38 in January, were the second team out of the poll.
Princeton, led by former UConn standout Carla Berube, moved up to No. 23 in the poll, and Fairfield made its season debut in the rankings at No. 25. The Stags are currently on an eight-game win streak and earned their third consecutive regular-season championship in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
