The Dallas Mavericks have been without rookie sensation Cooper Flagg for three weeks. The last time the 19-year-old saw action was on Feb. 10 in a 120-111 loss to the Phoenix Suns. Flagg has since missed seven straight games due to a left mid-foot sprain.

The Mavs ruled Flagg out again for Tuesday’s road matchup against the Charlotte Hornets. The former Duke Blue Devils star misses out on an opportunity to face off against ex-teammate and fellow Rookie of the Year contender Kon Knueppel.

Flagg has been incredible when he’s healthy, though. The 6-foot-9 small forward has played 49 games for Dallas this season. He is averaging 20.4 points on 48.2% shooting, 6.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.2 steals in 34.1 minutes per game. Flagg is also knocking down 1.1 triples per contest on a 30.2% clip.

Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd spoke to reporters ahead of Tuesday’s matchup against the Hornets. Kidd shared an update on Flagg’s road to recovery.

“He’s ramping up,” said the Mavs coach. “Everything is going well. Today was to kind of get back in his routine, and hopefully, as we go on this road trip, he can get in and play a game or two.”

Dallas kicks off a six-game road trip on Tuesday in Charlotte. While Kidd refused to provide a firm timetable on Flagg’s return to action, the latest development is that the Mavs expect him to return soon.

As Kidd said, he expects the rookie to return at one point during this road trip. It does not sound like Flagg will suit up in their upcoming back-to-back set on Thursday against the Orlando Magic and Friday against the Boston Celtics. However, it’s possible that the No. 1 overall pick will mark his return at the tail end of this road trip.

The final two games of the trip will be on Mar. 10 against the Atlanta Hawks, followed by a matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies on Mar. 12.

The Mavs enter Tuesday’s game against the Hornets with a 21-39 record and 12th in the Western Conference.
