The Brooklyn Nets are trying to finish the 2025-26 NBA season on a strong note given how tough the campaign has been to this point for everyone involved. Brooklyn made a somewhat-controversial move prior to the February trade deadline by releasing guard Cam Thomas, who later signed with the Milwaukee Bucks in free-agency. However, Thomas recently made some comments that head coach Jordi Fernandez addressed.

“I wish Cam the best. We loved him while he was here. We hope that he does very well where he is. I don’t know if he has a right to speak about others; but we’re very happy with the guys we have here,” Fernandez said prior to Thursday’s 126-110 loss at the Miami Heat. Fernandez was responding to comments made by Thomas in a recent interview with Stefan Bondy of the New York Post.

In his exclusive interview with Bondy, Thomas said that the Nets organization is one that doesn’t believe in any one player, seemingly including himself amongst a list of former star-level players that are no longer with the team. Since Thomas has made those comments, there has been plenty of pushback from those in the media who claim, similar to Fernandez, that Thomas can’t reliably say that his experience is the same as every other player.

Thomas, 24, seems to be playing solid basketball for a Bucks team that needs his scoring off the bench as he’s averaging 12.7 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 42.0% from the field and 26.3% from three-point land. During the past couple of seasons, Fernandez has applauded Thomas for his scoring ability while also imploring the guard to provide more by way of his playmaking for others and effort on defense.

Thomas seems to have found the role that fits him at this point in his career with Milwaukee head coach Doc Rivers likening him to former elite sixth men like Jamal Crawford and Lou Williams. In the end, Thomas had the chance to explain how he felt about the Nets organization as a whole, especially after not being able to come to terms with the franchise on a long-term deal, but it seems that Fernandez is maintaining that the team liked him when he was in Brooklyn.
