Before the NBA’s trade deadline last month, the Golden State Warriors were among the handful of teams with the interest — and the ammunition — to piece together a deal for Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.

One mechanism the Warriors could have used to make an Antetokounmpo trade work was by dealing Draymond Green’s contract to Milwaukee to make the salaries match. Green has spent his entire career with Golden State and was an integral part of four championship-winning teams between 2015 and 2022.
But he stayed put, as did Antetokounmpo.

The Warriors are expected to try again for Antetokounmpo this summer, when the Greek Freak could again agitate to leave a Bucks team that appears to be going nowhere fast. However, Green likely won’t be part of the deal, as he’s ticketed for free agency if he declines his player option for the 2026-27 NBA season.

And we now know how he felt about the Warriors fans who were eager to see him traded to the Bucks.
” To the real Warriors fans who don’t feel that way, thank you,” Green said on Fred VanVleet’s “Unguarded” podcast. “To the ones who do feel that way, you were a loser before I got here. A f*cking stone cold forever losers!”
Though Green signaled at the time that he would be open to the possibility of a trade, once that door closed, it closed with a slam.
Green seems far more likely now to end his career with the Warriors, as one part of the remaining dynastic core of Stephen Curry and head coach Steve Kerr. And any Warriors fans who don’t like that…well, Green has shown them where the door is.
