VIDEO REPORT: Pelicans rookies and volunteers plant trees in Gentilly for joint day of service
The Pelicans and Osar hosted *** joint day of service where *** few Pelicans players and Osner employees got their hands dirty. WDSU sports anchor Sharif Azhaq has more on this event that took place today. 61 trees are being planted in the Gentilly Woods neighborhood. These were trees that were destroyed during Hurricane Katrina, and three very popular rookies from the Pelicans are helping out Derrek Queen, Jeremiah Pearce, and Micah Peavey. Still, it was really fun. Um, it’s always fun to give it back to the community. And to do it with my fellow rooks, um, yeah, we had *** good time. What’s the green stuff? *** good time that’s, that’s fertilizer, which was the first time for Peavey. Try now. Try now, not *** tree, but I’ve, I’ve done some gardening with my grandma before, so I had some experience, but. This this team helped us helped us learn these skills, so, but not *** first for fears. Yeah, yeah. There we go. I’ve done this plenty of times, um, helping out back at home with some trees, some gardens, so just continuing to, um, share my knowledge with my fellow rooks and continuing to come out here and have fun and get back to the community. Did you find it easy to plant trees? Uh, yeah, just shove shovel helped *** lot. The ax helped *** lot. The rake helped *** lot. The rooks helped *** lot. The community helped *** lot. The people helped *** lot. Also helping Saints and Pelicans owner Gayle Benson. That’s amazing. She do so much for the community and her coming outside to help us in this hot weather. Um, it’s really cool and it’s really dope to see. Very cool for Seoul operations director Emily Steever. There you go, you’re up. The trees will help shade the neighborhood and cool it down up to 15 degrees, help drink up storm water and decrease any street flooding, um, and really beautify the neighborhood, Cherie Aishak.
