Sam Mitchell can sleep a little lighter now.
The former Toronto Raptors head coach was lapping it up on the TSN panel for a hilarious reason on Tuesday.
Bam Adebayo had a historic night for the Miami Heat, scoring 83 points in a game against the Washington Wizards. That’s the second-highest single-game point total in NBA history, trailing only Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point game from 1962.
It also surpassed Kobe Bryant’s 81-point night against the Raptors in 2006, when the Los Angeles Lakers superstar embarrassed Mitchell’s team.
Mitchell was on the TSN panel after the game with Kate Beirness and Leo Rautins, with the trio sipping ginger ale like it was champagne, revelling in the fact that Kobe’s historic night against him slipped down a spot.
“I’m not that dumbass that everybody thought I was,” Mitchell said with a smile.

The 62-year-old Mitchell also had a hilarious message to send to Washington Wizards head coach Brian Keefe.
“Coach, you did exactly what I did. You called your timeout, you tried every defence you could think of and could imagine. At the end of the day, you don’t play,” Mitchell said. “You gotta take it on the chin like a man, like I did, congratulate the young man.
“Coach, better you than me! Congratulations, thank you for taking my spot!”
