The Miami RedHawks have been the talk of the college basketball season this year. Miami is the last remaining undefeated men’s team in Division 1, but much has been made of the RedHawks strength of schedule.

Miami has zero quad 1 wins, and many believe that the RedHawks should only be able to earn their way into the NCAA tournament if they win the MAC tournament and go 34-0 on their campaign.

Unfortunately for the RedHawks, it appears as if even going 34-0 won’t be enough to earn them a high seed and a favorable matchup in the first round of the tournament.

“(EPSN college basketball analsyst Joe Lunardi) said if Miami (OH) wins the MAC Tournament, they’re looking at an 8-9 seed. If they happen to lose, they’re still in, but perhaps slip a bit. Either way, they’re in,” reported WKYC-TV 3 in Cleveland’s Nick Camino.

Fans reacted to Camino’s analysis on social media.

“I think that you would honestly rather be a 10/11 than an 8/9,” wrote popular sports Twitter account Reliable Sports.

“Can you imagine if they played Ohio State in the opening round?” one fan wondered.

“The problem Miami has (or will have) is getting on the dreaded 8/9 line. Assuming Miami wins, they would face say Duke, Michigan, etc. in the 2nd round. I remember in ’96 MAC team, EMU, led by Earl Boykins beat Duke in the round 8/9 but had to face the #1 overall team, UConn, in the round of 32,” someone else added.

It’ll be interesting to see how things play out for the RedHawks.
