The team has ruled the center out because of a right oblique strain. This will be Embiid’s seventh straight missed game. Some reports have also referred to the issue as a ribs injury, but the team continues to list it as a right oblique strain. His absence leaves Philadelphia short-handed against a Detroit team that has been among the strongest in the Eastern Conference this season.
How Joel Embiid’s Injury Happened
Joel Embiid suffered the injury during a February 26 game against the Miami Heat. The issue occurred after contact with Heat rookie Kel’el Ware. The Philadelphia 76ers sent him for an MRI two days later. The scan confirmed the oblique strain, and the team said he would miss at least three games before another evaluation. That timeline has passed, but Embiid has not yet returned. As of March 12, the team still has not set a clear return date. Another medical check is expected around mid-March.Embiid has played 33 of the team’s 62 games this season. The 76ers have struggled during his absence, going 1-4 in their recent games without him.
