ATLANTA – Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has been sidelined with a new injury, as he suffered a left ankle sprain against the Miami Heat on March 12. The injury knocked him out of the Bucks’ game against the Atlanta Hawks at State Farm Arena on March 14.
Antetokounmpo was initially listed as questionable to play against the Hawks with management of his right calf, but before the game head coach Doc Rivers said the two-time league MVP would be out with a foot injury.

The team clarified shortly thereafter that it was an ankle sprain.

It will be the 31st game of the season Antetokounmpo has missed. He previously sat out stretches due to a left adductor strain and two strains of his right calf. He missed a game against Golden State on Oct. 30 with soreness in his left knee.
“Yeah, it’s tough,” Antetokounmpo said of a season in which most of the Bucks have been injured. “I don’t know how the team feels, but for me personally it’s a tough season. I think it’s been awhile since as a team we’ve struggled like this, of like, oh, we’re trying to make the play-in or are we going to make the play-in, are we gonna try to make the playoffs, are we going to even make the play-in? All those thoughts creep in our head in the locker room. I haven’t had that in a while.

“And obviously, I don’t think I’ve ever got hurt and missed 25, 30 games into the season. So, I’m just trying to take it game-by-game. I’m grateful, happy that I’m out here competing, try to play the right way. That makes me feel good. But at the same time, it’s in my nature to win games and I want us to figure it out.”
Heading into the game the Bucks were 11-19 when Antetokounmpo was out and 16-19 when he played, though he exited three games early due to his muscle strains. The team was 1-2 in those.
