According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Celtics are planning to add the veteran center Charles Bassey on a temporary deal. If all goes as planned, Bassey will join the team for a 10-game stint, likely going into place after Saturday’s action against Washington.

@hoopshype. Bassey has averaged 4.3 points on 63% shooting from the field and 4.3 rebounds in 11.1 minutes during five combined NBA seasons with the Spurs, Grizzlies, and 76ers.

Lately, Bassey has been playing in the NBA G League for the Golden State Warriors‘ affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors.

When Bassey entered the NBA in 2021, he was a second-round pick out of Western Kentucky. The Philadelphia 76ers selected the center with their 53rd overall pick.

During his rookie season, the Sixers rolled out Bassey for 23 games. He averaged 7.3 minutes of playing time, producing 3.0 points per game. While the Sixers still had him under contract during his sophomore preseason, the team waived him before beginning the regular season. Bassey signed a two-way contract with the San Antonio Spurs shortly after.

Bassey eventually earned a standard deal with the Spurs. He showed a lot of promise with the team, but injuries affected his standing. He ended up playing in 90 games over the course of three years. During that time, Bassey posted averages of 4.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and nearly one block per game.

Over the summer, the Celtics added Bassey to their Summer League roster. The Atlanta Hawks would try him out before the start of the 2025-2026 NBA season, but he was waived at the end of the preseason. Bassey joined the Memphis Grizzlies on a 10-day deal in October. He played in two games before his contract expired.

The Sixers brought Bassey back for multiple 10-day contracts recently, but he only made one appearance. When the second deal expired, Bassey returned to the Warriors. Now, he’s getting another shot with the Celtics, as they deal with injuries in the front court.
