That one loss came against San Antonio Spurs a team that is in excellent form. In their last game they destroyed Minnesota Timberwolves and reached thirty three wins with thirty two losses.
Those one hundred fifty three points they scored against Timberwolves are the second highest number of points that Clippers have scored in their history and the highest in games without overtime. With that victory they also became the first team in league history that at one point in the season had fifteen more losses than wins but in the same season managed to reach a positive record. The biggest credit for that goes to Kawhi Leonard who is the absolute leader of the team and is playing one of the two best seasons of his career and possibly the best one. After the trades in which James Harden and Ivica Zubac left there were some problems in the Clippers game but very quickly the level returned to an excellent one. No team will be happy to face Clippers in the playoff because everyone knows that when Leonard plays at this level he alone can win several games in a series for Clippers. A lot will depend on Darius Garland and Bennedict Mathurin and if the two of them manage to perform at a high level Clippers will be very dangerous. It is completely expected that Clippers lead the league in points from isolation as well as the percentage of possessions that end with isolation because that is something Leonard likes to do. A definite problem for Clippers is the fact that they have below average rebounding.
The Chicago Bulls looked like a team that could do something more serious at the start of the season and after a few weeks they were near the top of the Eastern Conference. They opened the season with five wins in five games and also had a six and one record against very strong opponents. However things quickly returned to the expected situation and the team started to collect losses and fall down the Eastern Conference standings. After the loss in their most recent game against the Los Angeles Lakers the Bulls now have a record of twenty seven wins and thirty six losses. They have not yet mathematically lost all chances to reach the play in but it is clear that they do not want that and that their goal is to finish as low as possible in order to get a better draft pick.
In that game against the Lakers the Bulls showed how problematic their defense has been for most of the season because they allowed the opponents to score one hundred forty two points even though they played a fairly solid first quarter allowing twenty six points. The Lakers had no answer for Luka Doncic who did whatever he wanted and finished the game with fifty one points ten rebounds and nine assists. Josh Giddey finished the game with twenty seven points fifteen assists and eight rebounds and was the best player for the Bulls. The Australian is one of the few key players who remained in the team after a large number of trades during the season. Besides the defense which is among the worst in the league the Bulls offense is also not at a high level and we believe that both of those parameters will be even worse by the end of the season because they are now dealing with a large number of absences and opportunities are being given to players who realistically do not have the quality for the NBA league.
