The G League’s OKC Blue couldn’t be on the right side of an exciting game with a 131-125 overtime loss to Grand Rapids Gold on Sunday. The road defeat dropped their record to 10-20 in the regular season.

The high-scoring affair had quite the start. The Blue had a 37-32 lead after the first quarter. They added to their advantage with 28 points in the second frame. At that point, OKC entered halftime with a 65-53 advantage over the Gold.

Holding onto a double-digit lead, the Blue saw some of it erased. They had 28 points in the third quarter, but Grand Rapids cut into their advantage. OKC’s lead was down to 93-87. That meant we were likely to get another close finish.

Eventually, the Gold tied things up at 119 points apiece with a little under two minutes left. Comeback complete. Javante McCoy put Grand Rapids ahead 123-121 with 31 seconds left. Zhaire Smith tied it up at the free-throw line. With 17 seconds left, neither team scored again in regulation. OKC had 30 points in the final frame.

This game went to overtime. In the G League, the first to seven points is how you win beyond regulation. The Blue only had two points as the Gold scored eight points to walk away with the game.

The Blue shot 50% from the field and went 14-of-36 (38.9%) from 3. They shot 11-of-12 on free throws. They had 26 assists on 47 baskets. Six Blue players scored double-digit points.

Meanwhile, the Gold shot 49% from the field and went 16-of-45 (35.6%) from 3. They shot 12-of-13 on free throws. They had 21 assists on 48 baskets. Six Gold players scored double-digit points.
