Wow, just like that, and we’re already nearing the end of the NBA regular season, with less than a month to play before the final game of the season on Sunday, April 12, and nothing but important games from here on out, particularly if you’re one of the teams jockeying for playoff position.
The first game of tonight’s NBA Coast 2 Coast Tuesday doubleheader on NBC and Peacock features the Cavs vs. the Bucks, which certainly has its own playoff implications. Granted, if the Cavs keep playing like they have, there’s a good chance they’re safely in the NBA Playoffs, and avoiding Play-In territory.
But in the evening’s second game, the Denver Nuggets vs. Philadelphia 76ers, both teams are going to have to fight tooth and nail to avoid the Play-In. And that certainly starts tonight.

What’s at stake for Philadelphia in tonight’s 76ers vs. Nuggets game?
Tonight’s Nuggets-Sixers game is crucial for both squads, as both teams are doing their darndest to avoid the Play-In Tournament, but both teams are right on the edge.
Things haven’t exactly gone as planned this season for the 76ers, as they’ve been one of the most injury-plagued teams in the entire NBA. As such, they’ve had to learn how to play for stretches at a time without All-Stars Joel Embiid (right oblique strain) and Tyrese Maxey (right finger tendon strain), among others. They’ve also had to deal with another perennial All-Star, forward Paul George, being out for 25 games after being suspended for violating league policy.

But while injuries have hit the Sixers harder than most, there’s no sympathy in the NBA, and tonight is as important a game as they’ve faced this season, as they’ve now fallen into the 9th seed in the Eastern Conference, which means they’re not just in the Play-In Tournament, they’re on the bottom side of the bracket. But if they start winning, the teams in front of them are very reachable, including the 8th seeded (and red hot) Atlanta Hawks, who have the same record. Plus, the 76ers are only a game behind the 7th seed Miami Heat, and a game and a half behind the 6th seed Toronto Raptors and 5th seed Orlando Magic.
So yeah, they’ll need to find a way to win tonight. No small task while playing a mile-high in Denver, without Embiid, Maxey, George, Johni Broome (right knee surgery recovery), Jabari Walker (illness) and perhaps Dalen Terry (left shoulder impingement).

What’s at stake for Denver in tonight’s 76ers vs. Nuggets game?
Jamal Murray of the Denver Nuggets handles the ball during the game against the Toronto Raptors.
On paper, most folks would say the 76ers need tonight’s win more than the Nuggets, but Nuggets fans know tonight is every bit as important. The squad is in danger of dropping into Play-In territory, and like the 76ers, they’ve had five wins and five losses in their last 10 games, and being average just doesn’t get it done this time of year.
The Western Conference is a beast, per usual, but the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs have separated themselves from the rest. But just four games separate the No. 3 Los Angeles Lakers from the No. 7 Phoenix Suns, and the Nuggets are right in the middle of that pack, just two games in front of Phoenix, two games behind the Lakers, tied with the Minnesota Timberwolves, and a half game behind the Houston Rockets. So yeah, every game counts.

Fortunately for Denver, they’re starting to get healthy again, with Peyton Watson (right hamstring strain) currently the only Nugget still on the Injury Report. That’s saying something too, considering the long stretches they’ve had to play this season without three-time league MVP Nikola Jokic, as well as starters Aaron Gordon, Christian Braun, and Cam Johnson, among other tough injuries. The Nuggets’ starters, including All-Star Jamal Murray, have only played 14 games together so far this season, so they’re going to have to start gelling quickly to get into championship form.
