The Miami Heat (38–30) visit the Charlotte Hornets (34–34) tonight at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte in their second matchup in less than two weeks.
The Heat took their earlier meeting, 128–120, midway through a seven-game winning streak that was snapped in Saturday’s loss to the Orlando Magic.
Tyler Herro came up big in that previous win over Charlotte, scoring 33 points and finishing an assist and a rebound shy of a triple-double. Bam Adebayo posted a 24-point, 12-rebound double-double, and Jaime Jaquez Jr. added 21 off the bench.
For Charlotte, three starters scored 21 or more, led by rookie Kon Knueppel with 27.
The game was tight throughout, with 11 lead changes and no team leading by more than nine. With the game tied at 108 midway through the fourth, the Heat went on a 7–0 run to take the lead for good.
Miami’s victory ended Charlotte’s own six-game winning streak, and the Hornets enter tonight having lost three out of their last five games.
Norman Powell returned to the Miami lineup in their 121–117 loss to the Magic on Saturday, with Orlando completing the sweep of the season series. Jaquez led with 22 points, Powell and Adebayo followed with 20, while Herro struggled, shooting just 4-of-14 from the field.
The Hornets fell to the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday, unable to stop Victor Wembanyama, who scored 32 points and hit five 3-pointers. Miles Bridges led with 22 points and Knueppel followed with 20, but Charlotte shot just 38% from the field, with Brandon Miller going just 2-of-14.
Prediction
Miami leads the season series 3–0, with two of those matchups preceding Charlotte’s midseason surge. Expect a tighter series finale, with Charlotte prevailing with its stouter defense.
Prediction: Charlotte Hornets 121, Miami Heat 115
