In the most heart-racing game of the NCAA women’s tournament’s opening day, No. 11 seed Nebraska narrowly fell to No. 6 Baylor, 67-62, in Durham. This 6-vs-11 matchup was a defensive slugfest and the first close contest of the tournament’s first day.
After trailing 19-8 early, Nebraska fought back behind Logan Nissley, who fueled a 17-8 second-quarter run to give the Huskers a slim 28-27 halftime lead.
The second half remained a back-and-forth battle of wills, with Baylor’s athleticism eventually countering Nebraska’s interior grit. While the Huskers leaned on some timely drawn charges and shooting from Britt Prince, it was the Bears’ late-game execution allowed them to survive this potential upset.
Prince scored a game-high 27 points, while the Bears had a more balanced attack behind Darianna Littlepage-Buggs, Taliah Scott, Jana Van Gytenbeek and Bella Fontleroy, who each scored in double figures with Littlepage-Buggs added a team-leading 11 rebounds.
