Guard
Stud
Amen Thompson, Houston Rockets at Chicago Bulls ($8,400)
My first thought was to go with Luka Doncic, especially after the NBA rescinded his technical foul, making him eligible for Monday. The ownership could be depressed with the OUT next to his name while Detroit’s defense is good. And Luka can go bonkers against anyone. That said, I do have the utmost respect for Detroit’s defense, which is seventh over the last 15 games. Doncic is going to get his, but a ceiling game is more difficult to attain. He faced Detroit early in the season and scored in the 50 FPTS range. I have no respect for Chicago’s defense and the Bulls have been playing at the fastest pace over the last 15 games. And Thompson thrives in uptempo environments. He’s put up over 50 FPTS in three of the last five games and could make it four on Monday.
Other Options: Luka Doncic ($12,200), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander ($10,800), Kevin Durant ($8,900), Cooper Flagg ($8,800), Brandon Ingram ($7,800), Nickeil Alexander-Walker ($7,400), Dyson Daniels ($7,200), De’Aaron Fox ($7,200), Immanuel Quickley ($6,700), CJ McCollum ($6,600), Reed Sheppard ($6,400), Naji Marshall ($6,400)
Value
Jared McCain, Oklahoma City Thunder at Philadelphia 76ers ($4,600)
McCain received 28 minutes in each of the last two games, finishing with 38.8 and 27.2 FPTS. Both of those games were blowouts and the same could happen on Monday against an injury-depleted Philadelphia squad. Jalen Williams is returning for the Thunder but Ajay Mitchell is out, so McCain should remain the primary microwave off the bench.
Other Options: Daniss Jenkins ($6,000), De’Anthony Melton ($5,600), Tari Eason ($5,200), EJ Harkless ($5,100), Dylan Harper ($5,000) if he starts, Bez Mbeng ($5,000), Cason Wallace ($4,600), Gary Payton II ($4,600), Kennedy Chandler ($4,500), TJ McConnell ($4,300), Ryan Nembhard ($4,100), Jevon Carter ($3,600)
Forward
Stud
Paolo Banchero, Orlando Magic vs. Indiana Pacers ($9,100)
For one of the stars in the league, Banchero doesn’t garner a massive usage rate. It’s 26.8% on the season but it does tick above 30% from time to time. He doesn’t contribute much in the defensive categories but the offense does flow through him. More often than not, he will end up in the 30 to 40 FPTS range, but he has put up over 50 FPTS 19 times with five of those over 60 FPTS. Barring injury, foul trouble or a blowout, a 50-burger is a good possibility since Indiana is 11th in pace and dead-last in defensive rating over the last 15 games.
Other Options: Kevin Durant ($8,900), Cooper Flagg ($8,800), Scottie Barnes ($8,200), Dyson Daniels ($7,200), Ace Bailey ($7,100), RJ Barrett ($7,000), Jabari Smith Jr. ($6,600), Naji Marshall ($6,400), PJ Washington ($6,200)
Value
Gary Payton II, Golden State Warriors at Dallas Mavericks ($4,600)
Payton will never have plays called for him but the usage rate is in the 18 to 20 percent range. That’s more a function of the Warriors offense, and Payton cuts and attacks seams due to the offensive movement. But it’s his hustle on the boards and on defense that make him a productive fantasy player. Payton won’t play over 30 minutes but he chips in a little something in every statistical category. He’s put up at least 20 FPTS in 15 of the last 17 games with five of those over 30 FPTS and a high of 40 FPTS. In the four most recent contests, Payton put up 24.2, 35.5, 30.5 and 40 FPTS. He’s been a modicum of consistency for fantasy. Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.
Other Options: Tari Eason ($5,200), Julian Champagnie ($4,700), Cason Wallace ($4,600), Marvin Bagley III ($4,500)
Center
Stud
Victor Wembanyama, San Antonio Spurs at Miami Heat ($11,000)
Over the last nine games, Wemby has put up over 50 FPTS in all but one of those contests, with that one a 35.5 FPTS performance in a blowout against the Kings, playing only 22 minutes. He has two 70-FPTS games over that span. Wemby can not only stuff the stat sheet but open the top of each box and have each throw out confetti. He’s going to break fantasy at some point, but he hasn’t reached the consistent level of Nikola Jokic yet. Miami is second in pace over the last 15 games, so there should be plenty of opportunities to rack up fantasy goodies. Wemby faced Miami way back in October and put up 71 FPTS.
Other Options: Alperen Sengun ($8,600), Jalen Duren ($8,400), Isaiah Hartenstein ($6,300), PJ Washington ($6,200)
Value
Jakob Poeltl, Toronto Raptors at Utah Jazz ($6,000)
Poeltl missed 24 games from December to February. It took him a minute to get back up to speed, but he’s been locked in recently. Over the last three games, he’s put up 45.2, 33 and 54.5 FPTS in 35, 21 and 36 minutes. That 33 FPTS performance in only 21 minutes was due to a blowout over the Bulls. There is a risk of another blowout in this one, but the price is palatable and 30 FPTS wouldn’t be bad. The upside scenario is pretty juicy, though, especially since Utah is seventh in pace and 23rd in defensive rating over the last 15 games.
Other Options: Wendell Carter Jr. ($5,200), Daniel Gafford ($5,000), Olivier-Maxence Prosper ($4,700), Marvin Bagley III ($4,500)
