It’s been an up and down freshman season for Kansas’ Darryn Peterson. The talented first-year Jayhawk may have played his final collegiate game, as Kansas fell to St. John’s 67-65 on Sunday.
Basketball fans and analysts alike are looking ahead to what’s next for Peterson, including Charles Barkley. The NBA legend appeared on The Jim Rome Show on Monday to discuss what awaits Peterson if he decides to take his talents to the next level.
“His interview process is going to be very interesting,” Barkley predicted. “He’s got to answer some questions. Why did you miss so many games? Is there something physically wrong when you have cramps? He’s got to be available. The questions are fair. Those NBA teams are going to have to do their homework if they’re going to take him early in the draft.”
It’s been reported that Peterson suffered from full-body cramps after a Kansas practice earlier this season that were so painful he had to go to the hospital.
Despite the questions, Peterson is proud of the campaign he put together for the Jayhawks, and hopes he will be viewed positively in Kansas lore.

“Hopefully, as a player that will have a place to even call a home in Lawrence, Kansas. A player that went out there and played hard every time he could,” Peterson said. “Yeah, nothing in particular. It was a great year, I appreciate them for having our back throughout it all. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
