Two of the NBA’s hottest teams walk into Spectrum Center with contrasting motivations. The New York Knicks are chasing a top-three seed in the East, and the Charlotte Hornets are desperate to climb as high as possible with just ten games remaining. Something has to give, and it promises to be a brilliant night of basketball. The Hornets vs Knicks matchup is the most compelling game of Charlotte’s seven-game homestand.

Charlotte Hornets vs New York Knicks: Prediction and Preview

Charlotte enters this game having won four straight and six of their last seven. Their run is built on consecutive blowouts of the Miami Heat, 136-106, Orlando Magic, 130-111, Memphis Grizzlies, 124-101, and Sacramento Kings, 134-90. They sit eighth in the Eastern Conference at 38-34. As remarkable as that record sounds, it is worth remembering they were just 11-22  at the turn of the New Year. What has happened since then is nothing short of a transformation.

Charlotte’s Rise

Since the start of 2026, the Hornets, led by LaMelo Ball, have carried the league’s top offensive rating and the fourth-best defensive rating. They have made more buckets from three than any other team since January. They do so on the second-highest volume of attempts while converting at the most efficient rate in the league. In the last game, they tied a franchise record with 26 threes in a single game.

Much of what makes Charlotte so difficult to guard is their off-ball movement and relentless screening actions. Perimeter players constantly drag defenders into uncomfortable situations, forcing opponents into difficult switches and rotations. It is a selfless system that feeds on chemistry, and this group has plenty of it. Sion James put it best when describing what drives the team: “Just the unselfishness and lack of ego. A lot of players can do a lot of things, really great plays, but it doesn’t matter if you don’t have that buy-in. And we’ve had that buy-in from the very beginning.”

Coby White has also spoken about how dangerous this group has become. “I’ve never been on a team this dangerous,” he said. “It could be a back-and-forth game and then you hit one run, and then you look up and you’re up 20, and then you’re up 30. The main thing for me is, we’re explosive, but we’re starting to hold those leads when we do get them and continue to build on them. That’s the impressive thing for me too.”

He also highlighted Moussa Diabate‘s underrated role, noting that, unlike most big men, Diabate’s first instinct after an offensive rebound is to find a shooter rather than go back up, creating the kind of dagger threes that have defined this team’s recent run.

The Knicks

New York arrives in excellent shape of their own, having won seven straight to move to 48-25 and third in the East. Their numbers are strong across the board- third in offensive rating, fifth in defense, and fourth in three-point record accuracy league-wide. Over the past month, their defense has taken another step forward, helped by the addition of Jose Alvarado, who has brought more pressure at the point of attack.

Crucially, none of the opponents they beat during their seven-game winning streak come close to matching Charlotte’s current level. This will be their toughest test of that run.

Prediction

The Hornets vs Knicks game has everything that makes late-season NBA basketball so compelling. Two teams in excellent form, contrasting motivations, and a Spectrum Center crowd that has been electric throughout this homestand. Charlotte’s record-breaking three-point shooting, combined with their league-best net rating since January, makes them genuinely dangerous against anyone right now. That includes a Knicks side ranked third in offense.

Nevertheless, this Hornets vs Knicks clash represents Charlotte’s toughest test of the homestand. New York is more experienced, better defensively, and has far more playoff pedigree. If the Knicks lock in on Kon Knueppel’s shooting and slow Ball’s playmaking, Charlotte could find the game tighter than their recent blowouts suggest. Still, they will the home crowd behind them. Plus, this team have been playing the best basketball in the franchise’s recent history. Backing Charlotte feels right.
