SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — A large fire that broke out Thursday afternoon destroyed the home where slain former Memphis Grizzlies star Lorenzen Wright once lived, officials said.

According to the Shelby County Fire Department, the home on Classic Drive near the TPC Southwind golf course caught fire around 4:30 p.m. Thursday. The fire prompted 10 engine companies — eight from SCFD and two others with the Memphis Fire Department — to responded and wasn’t under control until about 2 1/2 hours later.

In total, 55 firefighters battled the blaze, fire officials said.

The SCFD reported that one firefighter suffered a shoulder injury while battling the fire — which also damaged the home next door.

The fire department confirmed that the home belonged to Wright, who was murdered in July 2010 and whose body was found days later in a remote Memphis field off Hacks Cross Road. MFD said investigators were still working to determined what caused the fire.
