With a 2-8 record in their last 10 games played, the Milwaukee Bucks have fallen too far from a play-in spot. Although they have not yet been officially eliminated, the Bucks are now nine games behind the 10th-seeded Miami Heat with only 10 games left to play.

Giannis Antetokounmpo has played only six games this month and hasn’t seen action since March 15th. Although he has not been declared out for the season, “Nightcap” host Shannon Sharpe says he does not expect Giannis to play again this season, comparing him to a car that’s waiting to be sold.

“That’s a car, Ocho, I know I want to get rid of it. I wanna park it. I will have it cleaned up, and I’m gonna sit it in the garage. Y’all come look at it if you want it. Cuz the more I drive it, the more chances somebody running into me. Or I’m not paying attention to, and somebody run and I run into somebody, now I decrease the value of it,”explained Sharpe.

Giannis has played a career-low 36 games this season

Antetokounmpo has been the target of trade rumors since the offseason because he still wants to win another NBA title, and it doesn’t appear that he can do so in Milwaukee, not after Damian Lillard suffered an Achilles injury during the 2025 NBA playoffs. The Bucks ended up waiving Lillard while creating cap space to sign Myles Turner, but he hasn’t been the second star that Giannis needs to succeed.

Aside from roster issues, Antetokounmpo has also been hounded by injuries this season and has not played enough games to put the Bucks in a position to make the playoffs, even the play-in. If he has played his final game this season, his 36 games this year are easily the fewest in any season of the Greek Freak’s 13-year NBA career.

“The injuries are starting to come with a greater regularity, and they’re starting to keep him out longer periods of time. And here’s the thing. His whole thing is athleticism. He doesn’t shoot the three well. He don’t shoot the mid-range well. Basically, everything is about speed and athleticism. Now, if we take some of that away, what are we really getting though?” Shannon added.

Simmons said Giannis is closer to Embiid than Jokic

Sharpe’s assessment of Antetokounmpo comes after “The Ringer” founder Bill Simmons recently argued that Giannis is no longer a Top 5 player in the NBA because he has been injury-prone in recent years and hasn’t played enough games this season to prove himself.

“Is he?”asked Simmons about Giannis being Top 5. “He doesn’t play. He’s closer to Embiid than Jokic. He doesn’t play. He gets hurt all the time… “

Simmons saying he wouldn’t trade for Giannis and Sharpe wondering what teams are getting with the 31-year-old version of “The Greek Freak” should make us rethink our perception of Antetokounmpo.

Many are saying he is the big fish this summer, with teams ready to give up their entire rosters to acquire him. In fairness to Giannis, he is only 31 years old, and he averaged 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game this season. But if Bill and Shannon are correct, he’s no longer the player he used to be.
