March Madness continues Saturday with both the men’s and women’s NCAA tournaments in action. The women’s tournament continues with the Sweet 16, while the men’s field continues to narrow with the Elite Eight.

The women’s Sweet 16 got off to a hot start Friday with No. 6 Notre Dame’s upset No. 3 Vanderbilt after Hannah Hidalgo broke the NCAA’s single-season steals record in their 67-64 win. No. 1 seeds South Carolina and Texas as well as No. 2 Michigan rolled as favorites early on Saturday.

The men’s tournament features two Elite Eight matchups. Big Ten comrades No. 3 Illinois and No. 9 Iowa meet for the second time this season. In the later game, No. 2 Purdue will attempt to join one of those teams in the Final Four, but the Boilermakers meet No. 1 Arizona, which has been a wrecking ball so far.

After there were just 11 total fouls in the second half, there have been 15 fouls in the second half … with seven minutes to go. And it’s not like the game has been played much more physically than it was in the first half.

This continues to look like it’s going to come down to the wire. The Illini lead 50-49 but Iowa is headed to the free throw line. 7:27 to play.

Virginia takes a 15-10 lead after a long 3-pointer from Romi Levy and Tabitha Amanze stealing a pass from TCU’s Olivia Miles and getting a layup.

Kymora Johnson already has five points for the Cavaliers, who are following the formula they need to win thus far.

If the Hawkeyes cool off at all from behind the arc, they’re going to need to do a better job on the glass to keep the upset attempt going. Iowa is 8-of-17 from the 3-point line, but is getting outrebounded 23-11 by Illinois so far.

Do the No. 10-seeded Cavaliers have one more upset in them after stunning No. 2 Iowa on the Hawkeyes’ home court in double overtime?

Kymora Johnson is playing some of the best basketball of the tournament, scoring 28 points in two consecutive games. And Paris Clark had arguably her top game of the season with 20 points versus the Hawkeyes. Virginia also has an advantage in the frontcourt with Sa’Myah Smith and Tabitha Amanze. That could be the difference in this game.

Stirtz has played every minute of the NCAA tournament for Iowa so far, but he finally got taken out near the end of the half against Illinois … but he came back in about 20 seconds later.

At least they tried. Stirtz has 15 points and his team is 20 minutes away from making the Final Four.
