Golden State Warriors fans have been through a remarkably trying season.

It felt promising when training camp opened in late September.

Warriors fans believed this would be the year of triumph because the Stephen Curry–Jimmy Butler duo would get a full season together. Neither player has been healthy virtually all year.

With two big names out of the lineup, it opened the door for younger players to get their shine; among those was rising star guard Moses Moody.

Moody, 23, was assembling his best season as a pro, until things came to an abrupt end earlier this week.

Moody suffered a terrible knee injury, one that’ll make fans wince even when replaying the moment in their heads.

Moody was just the latest addition to a logjam of injured players sidelined. Golden State has been decimated with injuries, which largely explains the team’s sub .500 record with just eight games remaining in the season.

Golden State Warriors announce encouraging Moody update

On Monday, Moody dashed down the other end of the court for what looked like the easiest two points anyone could ask for.

Instead, Moody experienced a career-altering moment. He went down and held on to his knee. Everyone could immediately sense something awful had just happened.

The Warriors guard was stretchered off the court with his knee wrapped. Before knowing anything about what happened to him, everyone could sense it would be a miracle if he were to be ready to play at any point next season, much less any time before then.

But Moody and the Warriors are where they are.

The 23-year-old Golden State has a long rehab ahead of him. Fortunately, things have gotten off to a wonderful start.

On Saturday, the team announced Moody underwent successful surgery to repair a ruptured patellar tendon. The post-surgery road to recovery has officially begun.

Dubs looking to channel the emotions of tough season into a strong finish

It feels like the Bay Area has seen extra clouds lately.

For a team that won its fourth title in an eight-year span not long ago, it already feels like an eternity since the good-old days.

Moody’s injury happened the same week the Warriors faithful were hopeful Curry would make his desperately-awaited return from injury. Curry has been out with a runner’s knee since late January.

The news of Curry’s setback followed by Moody’s scary injury has seemingly stripped all the optimism.

But the Warriors still have work to do and some things they can achieve, like finishing the regular season with a healthy Curry and a winning record. After that, it’s all about surviving the play-in.

It’ll most likely come down to sudden death for the Dubs. They are unlikely to grab the eighth seed, which would allow them an extra play-in game if they lose the first one.

Yes, there is always a next season, but the Warriors can absolutely leave the 2025-26 season on an encouraging note.
