Duke’s season came to a close in devastating fashion, as the Blue Devils fell to UConn by a point in the Elite Eight.
This marks the second-straight season that Duke blew a double-digit lead in the NCAA tournament, and both came as No. 1 seeds. The Blue Devils had such high hopes this year entering the tournament, but were unable to win their first National Championship since 2015.
Moving forward, Duke’s expectations won’t change. The fanbase expects to compete for a title next season, even if many of this year’s players will be moving on to the NBA.
Here’s a look at what’s up next for Duke’s men’s basketball team.

What’s next for Duke?
Despite Duke’s heartbreaking loss, the Blue Devils will once again be National Championship contenders next season. Duke is set to bring in another strong recruiting class to pair with a quality group of players who are likely to stay instead of hitting the transfer portal.
Most notably, Cam Boozer is expected to enter the NBA draft, as the freshman has a chance to be the top pick in June. However, Cayden Boozer is much more likely to return, as he is not as ready for the NBA as his brother.
Other possible returnees include Caleb Foster, who is set to enter his Senior season and probably wants to avenge this loss, and Nikolas Khamenia, another freshman who probably needs more development in college.
Sophomore guard Darren Harris and freshman guard Sebastian Wilkins didn’t play much, so they should return as well unless they want to explore transferring.
Head coach Jon Scheyer is also not going anywhere despite another disappointing loss. Scheyer has now led Duke to back-to-back No. 1 seeds and one of the best two-year stretches in school history. Scheyer will have to hit the transfer portal in order to fill out the rest of his roster.

Potential departures
As usual, Duke will see a lot of roster turnover next year.
Freshman Cam Boozer will enter the 2026 NBA draft, and he may not be alone. Sophomore guard Isaiah Evans, freshman center Patrick Ngongba and freshman guard Dame Sarr all have a chance to be selected in this year’s draft, so expect those three to test the draft waters as well.
Duke will also lose senior forward Maliq Brown, who is set to graduate this Spring after two seasons with the Blue Devils. Besides Brown, Duke has four other seniors from this year’s team who didn’t play much and will graduate as well.

Duke 2026 recruiting class
Duke once again has a strong recruiting class for the 2026-27 season, which includes four top-100 recruits and three members of the top 15, according to 247 Sports.
The Blue Devils’ top recruit next year will be Cameron Williams, a forward whom 247 Sports has ranked No. 3 overall. Duke also has commitments from guards Deron Rippey Jr. and Bryson Howard, ranked Nos. 10 and 15, along with center Maxime Meyer.
Will Boozer twins stay?
While the Boozer twins came in to Duke together, they will probably leave separately. Cameron is a top-ranked player in the 2026 NBA draft, so he will likely declare and become a professional, while Cayden is expected to return to Duke next year.
This is not a total surprise, as the two players were ranked 20 spots apart in the class of 2025. Cayden could take a more prominent role on the Blue Devils next season, and while he could test the draft waters, he is more likely to return to school.
