Los Angeles Clippers veteran Nicolas Batum explained that Victor Wembanyama might not be able to reach the all-time blocks record simply because nobody will want to shot in front of him.

San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama has already established himself in the NBA as one of the best rim protectors the league has ever seen.

Wemby is currently averaging 3.1 blocks per game this season, a slight drop from previous years, but he still appears to have the highest potential to challenge the all-time NBA blocks record.

When discussing Wembanyama and his potential to break the all-time blocks record, another French player, Los Angeles Clippers veteran Nicolas Batum, recalled what Joel Embiid told him about Wemby’s chances during his rookie season.

According to Batum, Embiid said Wemby likely won’t break the all-time blocks record because players will be too afraid to shoot around him, which would significantly reduce his numbers.

“Someone told me that when he [Wemby] was a rookie, I think it was Embiid, he said he won’t break the all-time record for blocks because people are gonna be too scared to shoot in front of him,” Batum recalled Embiid saying on The Youngman and the Three podcast.

Currently, the all-time blocks record belongs to Houston Rockets legend Hakeem Olajuwon, who amassed 3,830 career blocks. Olajuwon played 1,238 regular-season games over 18 seasons, averaging 3.1 blocks per game.

Meanwhile, Wemby has a total of 611 blocks after 176 games, averaging 3.5 blocks per game.
