Memphis Grizzlies vs Chicago Bulls Preview

The Memphis Grizzlies are currently stuck in no man’s land, like a tennis player who rushes the net and then stops halfway. They have moved away from the bottom of the standings, but they simply do not have the reach to fight for 10th place, which is currently held by the Golden State Warriors with 36 wins – 12 more than the Grizzlies, who sit in 12th place and are piling up loss after loss, partly due to a lack of motivation. They are already looking toward the draft and building a roster for next season, as it is more than clear, even mathematically, that there will be no play-in for them this year. This was evident in their most recent game, where they hosted the Houston Rockets, and the visitors came away with a 119-109 win.

The only bright spot in that game was Olivier-Maxence Prosper, who likely had his game of the season with 31 points and seven assists, but that is little consolation given the team’s struggles, as they have nine losses in their last 10 games. Worth mentioning for their performances against the Rockets are also Gregory Jackson, Javon Small and Cam Spencer. With all due respect, that is not enough firepower for stronger teams in the NBA. Injuries are also a major issue for the Grizzlies – there is no Ja Morant, nor Santi Aldama, so it is a big question how the team will look next season. Given the current situation, it all looks quite poor, which is reflected in the results. If some of the more prominent names were available, it would certainly be easier for the Grizzlies to grab a few more wins.

The situation for the Chicago Bulls in the Eastern Conference is very similar, as they are also 12th in the standings and have no realistic chance of reaching the 10th spot that leads to the play-in. It is therefore no surprise that they have four losses in their last five games, with their only win coming against the Houston Rockets. What does not help the Bulls is the fact that they have played 35 road games so far this season, winning only 11 and losing 24. Offensively, things do not look that bad – they rank 13th out of 30 teams with an average of 116 points per game. However, defense is a major issue and the main anchor dragging this team down. Defensively, they rank just 23rd, and that is the aspect of the game they will need to improve if they want better results next season.

This season, the key figure for the Bulls has been Josh Giddey, who has maintained a high level of performance despite numerous roster changes. The importance of the Australian playmaker became even more evident after the departure of Nikola Vucevic, as he took on even greater responsibility. Giddey regularly flirts with triple-double performances, and he was particularly impressive against the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he recorded as many as 19 assists. Collin Sexton has also been delivering strong performances, and despite some injury issues, he has found consistency on offense and is almost always scoring in double digits. He showed that again in the last game, where he scored 22 points. In that same game, Tre Jones also performed well, as did Isaac Okoro, who returned from injury and is now motivated to prove himself.

Injuries and Suspensions

For the Memphis Grizzlies, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Zach Edey, Scotty Pippen Jr., Santi Aldama, Ja Morant and Brandon Clarke are out for the season, while Jaylen Wells, Jahmai Mashack and Ty Jerome are questionable. For the Chicago Bulls, Noah Essengue, Zach Collins, Jaden Ivey and Jalen Smith will not play, while Yuki Kawamura, Anfernee Simons and Nick Richards are questionable.

Memphis Grizzlies vs Chicago Bulls Best Betting Tip and Prediction

Both teams have very poor defenses. The Grizzlies allowed 123 points to the San Antonio Spurs, and before that as many as 146 to the Atlanta Hawks. The Bulls conceded 131 points in their last game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, and an incredible 157 in the game before that against the Philadelphia 76ers. Prior to that, they even scored 132 points against the Houston Rockets, while allowing 124. It seems likely that this game will be played in a relaxed manner, which should result in a high-scoring contest, which is why we are predicting the over on total points.
