The Birmingham Squadron is relocating out of Alabama, as the New Orleans Pelicans announced their NBA G League affiliate will move to Kenner, Louisiana and be rebranded as the Laketown Squadron.
The team is expected to begin play at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner’s Laketown Park starting with the 2026-27 season.
Pelicans leadership says the move will help better align basketball operations and player development, thanks to the team’s closer proximity to New Orleans.
Kenner city leaders are calling the relocation a major economic opportunity, expecting it to bring more visitors, boost local businesses, and increase activity in the Laketown area.
As part of the transition, the Pontchartrain Center will undergo renovations, including new locker rooms, upgraded lighting and sound, and improved video boards in the 3,700-seat venue.
The announcement comes just days after the Birmingham Squadron wrapped up its 2025-26 season.
Pelicans officials also thanked the city of Birmingham, its leaders, and fans for their support during the team’s time in Alabama.
